The Progressive Likeminds Club of Ikorodu, a social and community-oriented organisation, has extended support to pupils in Ikorodu by distributing 2000 notebooks across three primary schools in Ikorodu, Lagos State, Southwest, Nigeria.
Schools visited during the distribution exercise on Tuesday are Oga Primary School, Estate Primary School, and Ijomu Muslim Primary School in Ikorodu.
Mr Michael Adekoya, General Secretary of the group, speaking at the commencement of the exercise at Oga Primary School, said that the educational support is part of annual programmes of Progressive Likeminds Club through which they give back to their community.

“As part of our annual programme, we have chosen to support this school as part of our Cooperative Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.
“Our CSR focuses on giving back to the community, to students in particular, through meaningful ways. This year, we have decided to provide you with essential materials that we believe will support your academic pursuits. On behalf of our president, I urge you to make the most of this gesture.”
He urged the pupils to always show discipline and be good students in terms of academics and character.

“I want to encourage you all to be attentive, exhibit good character, and show respect to your teachers, fellow students, and the school authorities. As many of us here are past students of this school, we understand the importance of making the most of the opportunities available to you.
“Let us strive to excel academically, support one another, and uphold the values of good citizenship. By doing so, we can make a positive impact in our community and beyond. May God bless you all. Amen. Thank you,” he exhorted.
Similarly, at Estate Primary School, the club’s Assistant General Secretary, Mr. Segun Mabunmi, urged students to focus on their studies and make their parents proud.

At Ijomu Mislim Primary School, Mr. Bola Mabunmi, a member of the Progressive Likeminds Club, advised students to work hard and strive for good grades, emphasising the importance of giving back to their community.
The head girl of Oga Primary School, Oluwanifemi Adedeji, appreciating the club described its members as good people.
“I would say a very big thank you to them because they’re the best people I have ever seen. They’re good people. Thank you.”
One of the beneficiaries at Oga Primary School, Kareem Quadri, a Primary 6 pupil, also commenting said:
“They are amazing and I like them very much. What they are doing is great and I am happy to see them today. Thank you.”

The headteachers in the three schools expressed gratitude towards the Progressive Likeminds Club gestures to their pupils.
Appreciating the kind gesture by the club, the representative of The Education Secretary at the event, Mr. Bamgbelu, Head of Section, Human Resources Management, LGEA, Ikorodu extended the Education Secretary’s appreciation.
” Your kind gesture is timely. The Education Secretary and the management of LGEA Ikorodu appreciate your efforts in development of education at the grassroots level. This gesture will not only motivate the pupils to perform better in their studies but also relieve the beneficiary parents. Thank you very much”

Also present at the event include the representatives of the Heads of Section, Social Mobilization Section, and School Support Services Section, Mrs. Ajayi and Mrs. Omone respectively.
The Progressive Likeminds Club is led by Alhaji Babajide Abdulahi (President), Engr. Ayodeji Olowu (Vice President), Mr. Michael Adekoya (Secretary), Mr. Segun Mabunmi (Assistant General Secretary), Mr Qudus Onileere (Treasurer), Mr Abubakar Sanni (chief whip) and Mr Tomiwa Igiaje(social secretary)
Other members are Mr Bola Mabunmi(Manson), Mr Kayode Olotinlade, Mr Abiodun Olowosago, Mr Tomiwa Shobamowo, Mr Femi Adeosun, Mr Philip Okwudihu, Mr Mudashiru Odetunde, Mr Samson Shoneye and Mr Ademola Oshin.
